Speaker 2:

That's right, my man, because we want to start a win over. Oh my God, it's a Gundam. These are so awesome, so these are Gundam figures, not sponsored guys.

Speaker 3:

Not sponsored Bandai. If you're watching Bandai, check it, bro.

Speaker 1:

These things were absolutely insane. So where did these come from? Where did you collect these from?

Speaker 2:

I don't have this in my country, in mi pueblo. No hay esto.

Speaker 3:

You know what? Let's hop right into it. This past weekend, I was at Tokyo X. Thank you, Tokyo. X Shout out Tokyo X. Ladies and gentlemen, I was working media at Tokyo X. I got to do the whole experience. It was a lot of fun. But one of the things they had, bandai had a whole section of gashapon machines. Is this what this is. Yeah, that's how they come.

Speaker 2:

Is this machines that are like a slot machine looking thing?

Speaker 1:

Yeah, it's like a slot machine looking thing. Once you go to the grocery store you put the 50 cents in right, like our version of it, but they got a totally better version of it.

Speaker 3:

Their version is like really cool. They call it gachapon, which is the. I guess it's the little surprise that you get Gotcha, because I mean part of it is gotcha.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, yeah, absolutely I love it, oh for real.

Speaker 2:

Well, think about it. Is it for real gachapon? Because I gotcha?

Speaker 1:

No, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, it makes sense it makes sense, I don't know.

Speaker 3:

But basically, yeah, oh, but there in with gashapon machines, and gashapon machines got little toys or little acrylics, little key chains like all these things, and it's basically all anime based and they had, they had. They had them there at the con they had a little section. Bandai had a full section on gashapon machines. I think they have maybe like 20 or more.

Speaker 2:

So I imagine, like in Japan, they have have an entire retail area and they just focus straight on gashapon. Yeah, that's amazing. You know what?

Speaker 3:

They actually got them here in the USA. They got five locations. What?

Speaker 2:

Wait, wait, really, because I won these figures.

Speaker 3:

They got one in Dallas, what but they got one in Dallas A legit one, a legit one.

Speaker 2:

It's like a full, or is it?

Speaker 3:

like just some. Bandai is Japanese.

Speaker 2:

Is Bandai based. It's an official. Bandai shop. That's freaking sick bro. It counts.

Speaker 3:

Most of the figures, most of the good figures, are Bandai.

Speaker 2:

Bandai, if you're watching Shout out Bandai Add.

Speaker 3:

Bandai. Collect on Twitter of the good figures are uh, bandai. Oh, if you're watching, hey, shout out collect on twitter?

Speaker 2:

no, man, because because bandai has good like quality when it comes to like materials that they offer yeah, bandai has a lot of good stuff.

Speaker 3:

I know bandai even has the well they have the film works out of it. Which those are adamant uh like uh rink of danis is lime blue log is by bandai Filmworks bro dang for real.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, it's the same studio, if you look at almost any Gundam, of course. Yeah, they're all Bandai products that's a Bandai franchise cause.

Speaker 2:

Like I remember, one time I went to Dallas the Dallas con we went to remember that game we were playing of Gundam oh man, If I find the image of the footage of that, I'm going to put that here.

Speaker 1:

Okay, but that Gundam game was insane bro, it was so pretty.

Speaker 2:

The game was crazy.

Speaker 3:

Bandai's coming out with a new Gundam game Gundam Builder 4.

Speaker 1:

Oh, I just saw that, where you could customize your Gundam in parts of all the franchises. There's, like I think, up to 37 different Birdie had birdie fingers.

Speaker 3:

Yes, man, I'm excited for that game. It's crazy.

Speaker 1:

You can do shoulders, cannons, guns, rifles armor colors. I saw that, bro, it looks sick. I was like is this an anime, but in a video game version?

Speaker 2:

I was like oh shit, but boys will be like yo buy that game and write that down.

Speaker 3:

Shout out Bandai Entertainment on Twitter. That's the vegan branch. They basically got a monopoly over it. Lucky Mark, how do?

Speaker 2:

I do that for real, for real. How do I do that for real, for real, bro?

Speaker 3:

Bandai's got all the best anime games, like Dragon Ball, sparking Zero. That's a Bandai studio.

Speaker 2:

Man. They got quality man Sparking Zero.

Speaker 3:

Okay, let's edition. Looks crazy, Bro. What up A Bandai figure.

Speaker 2:

Bandai cooked on that one bro. The impact frames in the game is stupid dog.

Speaker 1:

Stupid. Oh, bro, bro, I lost my mind.

Speaker 3:

It looks like in the fight, you're going to be able to play out an episode. It's a cut scene. They're legit cut scenes. One of the influencers said like they're in the tournament and the little square.

Speaker 2:

I know we're jumping around folks. I know we're jumping around.

Speaker 3:

I know we're jumping around, but they're in the square. I forget what it's called.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, the tournament yeah.

Speaker 3:

And then of course, the fight gets out of the square and like there's a cut scene where, like, the whole audience runs out.

Speaker 1:

Yes, oh, I love those Dude. That shit is so dope.

Speaker 3:

And then the fight breaks out of the bleachers. And then the guy online was playing it and he said he couldn't find the end of the map.

Speaker 2:

Oh.

Speaker 3:

He's like I still haven't found the end of the map. That's how good it is.

Speaker 1:

Dude, that's insane. But I heard some of these, the people that got a chance to play. It was only for like 30 minutes or whatever. It's been peak.

Speaker 2:

The video footage that.

Speaker 3:

I've seen of it is insane. Still months away, still months away.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, it doesn't come out until October or whatever, bro.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, I did bug some shit, but I mean the movesets the fighting Hercule.

Speaker 3:

Shit even looks cool dog the fact that they made Hercule like Hercule and you know the only way he they bring Majin Buu.

Speaker 1:

They bring Majin Buu to help out his fight.

Speaker 2:

That's just like that's one of those boob sets bro, that's so funny.

Speaker 1:

That was my favorite bro. That was cool Dragon.

Speaker 3:

Ball Sparky Sierra. We're really excited for that.

Speaker 1:

It's going to be peaked dog.

Speaker 3:

Bandai sent us an early copy. We'll review it for you. I'm really pushing for a Bandai sponsorship, this game I really hope.

Speaker 1:

I need free gundams I promise, we will do you clean content, I will do a bunch of gundam content.

Speaker 3:

I got all gundams. So much I love the little gundams. We do it for you. I mean, speaking of the gashapon machines. Uh, these little gundams in the gashapon machines, uh, I guess they're really hard to see I don't know if you can see that there you go yep, perfect, perfect, perfect. Look at the detail perfect perfect bro look at the detail like it's worth.

Speaker 2:

It's worth the souvenirs, worth the toy bro, like we're not sponsored by that, but man, it's like so I had to build them.

Speaker 3:

You know, you build gundams and look like they come in these little balls, but here's all the pieces, here's the runner.

Speaker 2:

I see the brand Bandai.

Speaker 3:

Here's the runners.

Speaker 2:

Bandai's have the best toys man.

Speaker 3:

The little runners for the Gundam.

Speaker 2:

Of course I can't afford it.

Speaker 3:

Here's the body, the head, the torso. So these are how they come. They come undone like a real Gundam model a real Gundam model, yeah, like a build model that is like a little collectible.

Speaker 3:

So I thought it was really cool. I got a bunch of like little collectible Gundams in these Gashapon machines. I was talking to somebody there because I got a duplicate this one's a duplicate right and the dude was like, yeah, just stand in front of the machine and wait for somebody else to do it and you can just trade them. I'm like, well, nobody's getting the Gundam.

Speaker 1:

Oh man, yeah, that's kind of suck, bro. You're like looking around, everybody's going like one piece shit. You're like, hey, they got Gundams here. They got the little Gundam, they got.

Speaker 3:

Gundams. Hey, do you guys know? No, but I thought about what about the culture in Japan. Like you're probably at the store and you're with a bunch of people and you're like getting the machine, bro.

Speaker 1:

That's the version. That's awesome. That's like trading cards, you know, but it's got you. I can imagine.

Speaker 3:

I can imagine that'll be part of the Gashapon store court over there oh, 100%.

Speaker 1:

You just hang out at the Gashapon store, bro, especially if you hit like a bunch of duds the day before. Are you coming back? I'm coming back to see who I can trade with. Is there any kid?

Speaker 2:

I was going to say if you get copies of the same one, I'll bring all 10 of them. It's like somebody's you know what you want to do. I wouldn't tell nobody.

Speaker 1:

That's my last one, bro, Check it. I had eight other ones. They sold out today.

Speaker 2:

I'm telling you this is hot man, I'm telling you, bro, you know we got an episode coming up.

Speaker 1:

I thought about gambling. You know how you is hot this machine is hot.

Speaker 3:

You gotta try this machine. It's hot, I got five different figures.

Speaker 3:

You know, you got all five bro, every single what the sad part of it is I went to one machine twice and I got the same. Gundam back to back and I was like they gotcha man, gotcha boy, you know, but I mean cause it's gambling. You don't know what you're gonna get yeah uh, the little toys, you know, it's like uh, they come in series, so every machine has like six, seven figures maybe dude, that's insane so, like this one's, the little one piece acrylic, they got like little mini acrylics.

Speaker 3:

Which acrylics are really cool. Apparently they're really big in japan too. Uh, but this one, this acrylic right here, man, these things are really hard to open. Of course, this will happen midstream always opening live, there we go yeah, but uh, yeah see I don't know if you can see, but it's like eight different options yeah.

Speaker 1:

So there's a bunch of different variations that obviously you can get in this series of just and that's just acrylics, when that's that's what I think is so cool is that it's these random things that you would never find really anywhere else. Like, where else are you going to find freaking mini badass Gundams or kaiju number 8 anime characters like that's sick bro, like I'll walk up and show it there was also good food there.

Speaker 3:

No, yes, let's not forget, I was stuck at this gashapon area for a little while.

Speaker 2:

I don't blame you. I would have been permitted to try to get the right one too.

Speaker 3:

I bought a few, and then I came home and I built them that same night, and then I went back the next day and. I spent more time on the Gashapon area.

Speaker 1:

Especially because it was hot. There were like a lot of people.

Speaker 3:

Come on, Gundam Wing Come on Gundam Wing, but Tokyo X what the Converly is first off sick, sick, like that looks badass. You can show it to the camera close up there it's Godzilla.

Speaker 2:

Godzilla every year is Godzilla's year. Bro, every year is Godzilla's year.

Speaker 1:

You know why? Cause it's been like 50 years and he still, he still holds up the king of the monsters their little slogan is bringing, bringing a piece of Japan.

Speaker 3:

Tokyo Sex is like they want to bring a little piece of Japan to the festival. I think it claims to be Texas' biggest indoor festival. It's a festival because it has all the food vendors. It's not actually a convention, it's more like a festival with food vendors Was the food popping and stuff this year. The food was popping man. I don't know if you saw my Instagram story, If you follow us on the WBM Instagram.

Speaker 2:

You got to go check the story. If you haven't IG at WBM, you missed all the good content. It's always there.

Speaker 3:

I think I posted the onigiri, the rice balls. I was with a friend not this guy's and I'm like, hey, man, you want to get takoyaki. And they're like, well, what's takoyaki? I'm like octopus balls and he's like octopus balls, they got balls.

Speaker 1:

Oh bro that would have made me pause too.

Speaker 2:

I'd have been like wait.

Speaker 1:

What do you mean?

Speaker 3:

There's no context Because he doesn't know, do octopus have balls? Per lay fact that he's such a good friend that he didn't even like really question me. He just went with it because I'm like they're really good man and he's like, um, I mean we could go try them. And we're standing at night for like 20 minutes trying to get octopus balls and he's still thinking they're octopus balls, it's only until we get to the front and he's like, yeah, I don't know if I could do this man, that's hilarious why I don't know if I could eat the testicles of octopus.

Speaker 3:

First of all, octopus don't have testicles. That's what I'm about to ask, Like since when Takoyaki are not octopus balls, they're just balls filled with grill or uh, cooked, octopus I've never seen an octopus cocking balls, bro, Like I don't think they have I don't think they have. I mean, they're not a mammal right? Yeah, but that was the joke. I like he, uh, the fact that he decided to stay there for 20 minutes thinking are we about to eat?

Speaker 1:

that's a real one dog. I'll give it to him like uh but the takoyaki was really good.

Speaker 3:

He tried it at the end, he did try it at the end. Uh, it's squished up on us bro, not a fan, not a fan apparently oh, this isn't acquired, he probably thought they were he was disappointed.

Speaker 1:

They're not juicy like that.

Speaker 3:

They had Japanese wagyu beef. Noodles of course they had the cold noodles.

Speaker 2:

That was the first time I saw it.

Speaker 1:

I was so mad when I saw it, was it called udon or whatever.

Speaker 2:

No, bro, there you go. Yeah, that was cool.

Speaker 1:

That was the first time I saw it. I was so mad when I saw it. Was it called Udon or?

Speaker 2:

whatever. No, bro Soba, there you go. Yeah, I still I'm not a big fan of those cold noodles.

Speaker 3:

You know me neither, but I mean you see it in anime all the time, Like Shota Todoroki from my Hero.

Speaker 2:

I like mine, freezing cold. Honestly, bro, I think it's just my American thing. This is like, bro, this isn't enough Word.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, I mean to me too, because I tried them and I'm like it's not enough. Can I hit this up?

Speaker 1:

Why did y'all leave this out for so long? I get it. That's right, though.

Speaker 3:

Bringing a little piece of Japan right. Yeah, you got to try Japanese food and culture, that's super cool. They have the car show, the car show. I think it's funny that every anime convention Now there's a car show. Yeah, but I always liked.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, I never got that, but thank you, thank you for your fandom.

Speaker 3:

No, I mean car culture. You know Waifus and cars.

Speaker 1:

Thank, you for showing that you know what. I wonder if that was Like the super, like Simple introduction For like cons of gathering For car nerds and stuff like that yeah, like that works, it's, it's super true. Like you know what? Because I would feel self-conscious if I had a waifu on my car, if there was no anybody else getting waifus but if I'm like, yeah, if my boy was like bro, I'll go, I'll get him with you.

Speaker 2:

I mean, there's a whole culture behind it man, oh no, what's it called the midnight club the midnight club was that was there in japan, within japan, no no, bro, you think about the xbox game. No, no, they really know what was the name. Of the Japan, the homeboy.

Speaker 3:

Initially.

Speaker 2:

No, the actual racing club.

Speaker 1:

Oh, I know, there is like a real drifting racing club.

Speaker 3:

The underground one there was this famous dude, I think it's Midnight Club.

Speaker 2:

I think it's Midnight Club. I think it's called the Midnight Club for sure. I just know the video game no there was a dude in Japan who really had a Supra I think it's what initially he on. He's the one that the law was like. They had to update the cars in Japan because home run would be too fast.

Speaker 3:

He couldn't catch them.

Speaker 2:

He couldn't catch them.

Speaker 3:

So he would fly to.

Speaker 2:

Korea. He was known for doing shit. He would go to Korea. He would go to China, he would fly his car out and then go to these parts. That just straight shot like 3, 4 o'clock in the morning. What? No cop is catching them. He's a supra. Yeah, because he customized that thing to fly, that's fucking insane.

Speaker 1:

I didn't know that. No, I never knew that. I just know that. Oh, you never knew that.

Speaker 2:

Midnight club definition, like that's all I know he's based on his guy, I think, but somebody did die, so I think that's when they stopped in, like in the late 90s I don't know too much of the story, but that's what I heard.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, I was like this really famous car club that started the culture basically.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, and culture. Like he was him, Like he would like update his Supra. It was a Supra, it was a Mazda, from what I understand.

Speaker 3:

Oh yeah, the old.

Speaker 2:

RX-7s, bro, this, oh yeah, that's right. Remember the RX-6? Like in the initial day, some orange ass. Whole thing in the movie was like the cops on ball are chasing you because that's the reference in the movie.

Speaker 3:

That's him if you can't, holy shit is that it doesn't matter how fast you go, you're not gonna catch him once you go over yeah, they know they can't and homeboy was like a silent pro, like just underground pro.

Speaker 2:

He could pro if he wanted to but he was underground. He's like 60, 70, so he can't see he's good at night.

Speaker 1:

Well, let's wrap up the final thoughts on Tokyo X. Oh sorry, yeah sorry.

Speaker 3:

We went into Dragon Ball, spark and Zero.

Speaker 1:

And we're not done yet.

Speaker 3:

The beginning of Japanese drift culture. That's right. And back to Tokyo X. I want to know more. I'm about to go on Wikipedia's links period because I want to know more about that story TikTok links right after this but Tokyo X I also tried out the maid cafe, same Green Bowl Maid Cafe.

Speaker 2:

Oh, how was that? How was it?

Speaker 3:

It was. You know I've been to better ones, I'm not going to lie to you. But maid cafes are. You know? I always respect the girls like trying so hard, wasn't there an organization?

Speaker 2:

that was focused on this, though For Japan, yes. So what happened?

Speaker 3:

You know what I don't know?

Speaker 2:

I've been to a better one. Who were the ladies from? Were they from Japan as well? Nah, they were locals.

Speaker 3:

The company goes around the whole nation.

Speaker 2:

It's an actual.

Speaker 3:

Japanese main cafe company and they're touring the nation this year. But every stop that they go to, they just recruit local girls. Actually japanese main cafe company and they tour their tour in the nation this year but every every stop that they go to, they just, uh, recruit local girls you know who.

Speaker 2:

I wish that japanese did the record the organization like that, because I heard in japan they have the male horse where, like, the girls will come to you and like what happened to make cafes. Bro, what I wish isn't there another one just like that. But we're like dudes, like opposite of of dudes. Oh, you know, I was watching a TikTok.

Speaker 1:

I've seen those ice cream parlors, yes.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, see, no, no, no, no See, I'm not crazy, bro. It wasn't a main cafe, it was a ninja cafe and like the waiters were ninjas, bro, you enter the entrance is like a little gas station corner store and like behind a freezer, it's like this way to the ninja dojo or whatever it's called, and like. It's like a little cave looking thing, oh bro, and the dude has like a little shooting star souvenir. I'm like I saw one. Are you kidding me? I would so go to a ninja casino. Let's go, let's fly now.

Speaker 2:

How do I disappear and reappear? Show me the smoke bomb. Shit bro.

Speaker 1:

What's that jutsu called Ni ni dang?

Speaker 3:

You know it's funny because I had seen it before. You know that series, akiba Maid Wars, which I talked about.

Speaker 2:

Oh, that's right. That's right. Bring it back to our previous episode.

Speaker 3:

Spoilers. But in episode Spoilers. But in one of the episodes the main girl, she's like I don't want to be a maid, no more, but she doesn't leave the city. She doesn't leave the street, the neighborhood.

Speaker 2:

She stays for the streets. Ladies and gentlemen, you can take her out to the maid.

Speaker 1:

You can take the girl out to the cafe, but you can't take the maid out to the girl.

Speaker 3:

Well, she ends up taking a job. She ends up taking a job at the ninja. The ninjas cover their face, they come looking for her and I'm like. I'm not her. We can clearly tell you're her dressed as a ninja. That's why that's so great, because the plot is so crazy. But Make a Fan was great. Oh, I was going to talk about the people that I met. I saw the Nami voice actress. Voice actor.

Speaker 2:

Akimi Okamura. Her voice was super nice.

Speaker 3:

I didn't meet her. She had a long line.

Speaker 2:

It was ridiculous.

Speaker 3:

I wasn't sure if I wanted to spend money on that autograph, but she always had a long line so she always had a bunch of fans wanting to meet Japanese Nami and the Mexican Nami voice actress happened to be there. What she was going to go meet the Japanese Nami. You know she came from Mexico to meet the Japanese Nami oh shit.

Speaker 3:

And then they had announced it on their social. They had announced it on their social. Forgive me, I forget her name but then on Sunday they were like oh hey, she decided to like you know, she's going to go ahead and sign some autographs, so this place is the only place where you can get to.

Speaker 1:

If you guys saw their highlights and their stories, you know you would have seen it was out there, but if I was a big one piece fan, I think that would have been yeah, but I'm not, I'm not.

Speaker 3:

I'm not a live action.

Speaker 2:

But uh, yeah, man the Mexican.

Speaker 3:

But yeah, man.

Speaker 2:

Double D the Mexican. That's cool as fuck, dude. Yeah, I thought that was cool. Did you get a chance to meet him? Or they were like Just a little stupid long line.

Speaker 3:

Well, the Japanese. I never saw the Mexican one. I don't know what table she was at.

Speaker 1:

I feel like there was A lot of people that we met. I'm sorry.

Speaker 3:

But I saw the Japanese From afar. There was more Sectors, of course. Always good to see you, blake Shepard, shout out Blake Shepard. I talked to Jay Hickman for a little while. Hope to see him in Houston and in Dallas later this year. I also talked to I saw a panel with Fuyuto Takeda. He's a manga editor from Japan and people got to submit their mangas and he would review them or talk about what he thinks. Oh, like make them better. Really, our boys Iridescent submitted their manga.

Speaker 1:

Oh, shout out to Iridescent, shout out to the Blaze Brothers.

Speaker 3:

Got to talk to them for a little while.

Speaker 2:

Dang. How are they?

Speaker 3:

Big things coming up with them, very cool.

Speaker 2:

Stay tuned on that, one brother.

Speaker 3:

But the Japanese manga is. I got to like look over their manga. I saw it on stage, but that's awesome.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, that's cool, man Congrats.

Speaker 2:

Hey, the fact that he looked at it is awesome.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, that's proud.

Speaker 2:

It's tough, man, it's tough, you know, it's cool, it's really.

Speaker 3:

I met a couple of cosplayers. Shout out to Peachy Pie Cosplay as Ari. That Ari cosplay was awesome, oh yes. And Animia Cosplay Animia. She was a cool cosplayer and comic book writer. Her panel was really cool and I got to talk to her at her table. So I got to talk to a couple of people as media.

Speaker 2:

Nice man. Yeah, how were the voice actors?

Speaker 3:

Well, they had a few, but I only talked to like Lake Shepherd and Jake Shepard.

Speaker 1:

Oh, okay, okay, yeah, the people that we stopped by, you know.

Speaker 2:

Gotcha gotcha Said what's up to our peeps yeah.

Speaker 3:

I was running around because I had to go like drop stuff off here.

Speaker 2:

It was called Soba Noodles bro for you.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, yeah. Shout out to Tokyo X, hoping to be there next year. Shout out to Fusion Ha, they were at Tokyo X too. Shout out to Fusion Ha, boy Chaz and Jeremy.

Speaker 3:

Shout out to the boys they were there on Saturday, so I think I never caught them, but we were there at the same time. So we were there together In spirit.

Speaker 1:

In spirit.

Speaker 3:

Classic CP pod fam. I think that's it for my shout out. If I saw you at the con, you know, hey, thank you so much.

Speaker 2:

I forgot you. I'm so sorry. I love you.

Speaker 3:

Alright well, yeah, that's Tokyo X Japanese culture, am I right?

Speaker 2:

Am I right?

Speaker 1:

Copyright. So, alright, let's segue right into it, man, I wonder if you know.

Speaker 2:

I didn't know. In Tokyo I happen to be having like a cool ass Japanese shirt.

Speaker 1:

Oh, he actually does Representation.

Speaker 3:

I see it, I got my Japanese kimono. Oh, look at you guys.

Speaker 1:

I have one piece Shut up.

Speaker 2:

That's saying that we're like that's our weaves, Damn. Can you tell that?

Speaker 3:

we're fans of the culture. We're starting to get down with tacos. I wonder if there's like Fucking weaves. I wonder if there's the opposite. I hope there's like three Japanese homies out there saying look, this is my shirt of like Pedro Infante, what?

Speaker 2:

documentary I sent you of Cholo culture in Japan. I have. I've seen them oh that shit is wild.

Speaker 1:

I love that From LA. I love that. Yeah, yeah, yeah. They got the drawn on eyebrows.

Speaker 2:

Homegirl got a loca, la loca Look at her neck. But I'm like the opposite end of the Latinos.

Speaker 3:

I'm from LA, I'm California like it is a big thing there, you know, but it's just so scary that, like to them, it's almost like no, the boogeyman, you know.

Speaker 2:

You know what I'm saying, because there was so problems around the area. I was just like I know. I can't be a cholo. I gotta boy, you know, because oscar the lion was a good you know, he was a golden boy he was a golden boy but, they come to find with the hulu bro, he's doing lines like the wolf of wall street it does more lines than uh wolf of wall street than a

Speaker 1:

voice actor that was a good one way to bring it back around. I love it, I love it, I love it speaking of acting, you know there's been some good acting recently. Planet of the Apes, bro.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, man Hands down bro With technology and the eye, I think they see the motion capture.

Speaker 1:

Oh, it's next gen right now bro.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, because what's his name in the new movie that plays His name? Yeah, that guy. That guy does like in every movie, but you can't remember his name yeah what a wonderful day he was in talk show host and he was doing the whole thing where he was acting like an ape.

Speaker 1:

Uh, yeah, you saw that in the morning show.

Speaker 3:

One right uh because they go through ape training, bro, like get all the manners and try yes and he talks about.

Speaker 1:

He's like. This is the first time I went full ape with this guy and he walked up, because it's actually them.

Speaker 3:

I mean, yes, it's CGI, but it is them acting behind the CGI, that's crazy.

Speaker 1:

It's not like other things, they're just voicing over. No, they have to do everything.

Speaker 3:

Everything those characters do, they act.

Speaker 2:

It's not just the voice, motion capture, those entire things, my favorite thing that they do is like that you're mentioning the face gestures, like the random face gestures that they do, because it makes it so believable. Because, like, if you see, because I have seen documentaries of like the wild, you know, because I have a niece so I watch animal documentaries and my favorite part is like when they do random gestures in the face, you know. So watching them in the movie I was like, oh they got that too. Like the details is crazy in this movie. It's really good. That's my favorite part. The random.

Speaker 2:

Here's the part that blows my mind though, A monkey, just you know, eat a banana and the part that fucks me up with this is that we're on a funny.

Speaker 1:

We're on movie number four, bro the. Even the original series didn't make it past three.

Speaker 3:

You know it's when we like number nine, well, okay yeah, that's what I'm saying.

Speaker 1:

But, like the original series, felt connected the one from the one from the 70s no yeah, the one from the 70s or the 80s that only made it three movies, right? If I'm not mistaken, that made it it's classic three movies uh, don't give me the star lines. Yeah, bro okay, so there's that one. And then there was one that mark walbert did, which was bad right. Everybody remembers, arguably was arguably bad.

Speaker 3:

Was it bad when I watched it? Okay, me knowing nothing about same, I watched it when I was in middle school and I was like this shit is fucking cool oh, yeah, yeah, with the novice eye Going back and like watching, the critics are like this was bad, right.

Speaker 2:

I'm like oh, and you know what, and I thought it was cool because I was like I thought he respected, I thought Tim Burton respected.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, I thought so too. I thought his take was I can't repeat it. He had a very Tim Burton take. It's like you give plenty of gifts to Tim Burton. What do you expect from?

Speaker 1:

him Tim fucking.

Speaker 3:

Burton yeah, I watched it this day and I'm like this is obviously a Tim Burton movie.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, but he made it plausible, like even the ending where he comes to a different universe, the twist ending where it's like you got Abe Abraham Lincoln.

Speaker 3:

I'm like that was okay, abraham Lincoln Abraham.

Speaker 1:

Lincoln Because he's an ape. I love it Anyway. I thought it was really cool.

Speaker 2:

Me too. My favorite scene is like the Channel News lady going. It's a monkey. That's when I really lost it. I was like oh shit he's in the reality. Or something happened.

Speaker 3:

I mean, it was very sci-fi with the fact that they explain a black hole. They explain temporal rifts. They try to explain how to go back to his own original. Yeah, and all it did was push through, like you know, different time and space.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, man.

Speaker 3:

Way more sci-fi elements than the original, I feel you a hundred percent on that bro, even the scenes I didn't get a sequel though.

Speaker 2:

And I love it because it was one of the best scenes, because the horseback riding scenes before we get to that, one.

Speaker 1:

Oh bro, I was about to say the horseback riding scenes.

Speaker 2:

The scenes were, I remember, because they were slaves and they were just like monkeys. They would shower with, just using flowers to rub on themselves to smell nice, but they'd be upside down in their house Like it made sense this movie made sense.

Speaker 3:

It had all that stuff.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, like they're apes they're going to be upside down. You know, just hanging around having a conversation, like I thought it was like peak details.

Speaker 3:

Oh, and the comparison. The comparison to where, like in the first movie, he finds the Statue of Liberty buried in the sand.

Speaker 1:

Oh, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 3:

In this one there's that comparison in shots where it's like what's buried in the sand is his own ship, his crew, where it's like what's buried in the sand is his own ship, his crewmates.

Speaker 1:

You remember that?

Speaker 3:

oh, I did forget that I had a whole time travel subplot yeah he's trying to get to like his ship and like she, the, the aid that's helping her. It's like uh well, I recognize this from the the ruins or something like that. Yeah, yeah and he thinks he's like well, that's my ship and I'm gonna find my crew right. You know, his crew came there hundreds of years ago. That's the ruins now and the apes that they had in the ship Are the apes that took over the planet?

Speaker 2:

Yeah, I thought it was clever. I'm 100% on board with you.

Speaker 3:

If you thought this was a new planet Of the Apes Review, really You're here for Tim Bergen's Planet of the Apes review really You're here for Tim Burton's Planet of the Apes Surprise baby.

Speaker 2:

But because it failed, you know. Years later they revamped it right, right.

Speaker 1:

Yes, but what got it off the ground was my thing. I'm like there was nobody that we really knew. I mean, Andy Serkis, right, was the guy who played Gollum and all those other great characters.

Speaker 2:

Before we started the podcast, you had this great take on James Franco James. Franco was my reason and I was like Andy Serkis was cool, oh you tied him to the movie that made you want to watch it. Andy Serkis is the same yeah, Andy Serkis is.

Speaker 1:

Caesar. Yeah, andy Serkis is Caesar.

Speaker 3:

So for me I'm like Because it was a big thing. This is another role, yet another. A big deal, but the movie got a little bust because of that, and you know what it was perfect timing for James Franco.

Speaker 2:

I agree, because you said earlier I wouldn't watch it if it was attached to James Franco. That was James Franco prime, like today on today's date, you know hashtag.

Speaker 3:

I would still watch a James Franco movie today what's up bro?

Speaker 2:

me too, but I'm talking about back then. It was Pineapple Express.

Speaker 1:

Pineapple Express. What else?

Speaker 2:

was he doing?

Speaker 1:

Remember he had the Spider-Man franchise series. Yeah, he had all these movies coming out. He had Pineapple Express when that movie came out.

Speaker 3:

he was coming from the Spider-Man franchise series and I think he was trying to take on more serious roles, because that first part of the Apes reboot or revamp was a more serious role for him it was, it wasn't a funny role. It wasn't a pineapple express.

Speaker 2:

It wasn't an action, okay. It was, it was the time when he was going to be cause he, he can, he could do it all. Yeah, he's up there for me and Jonah Hill. They're both, they can both do it all.

Speaker 3:

Yes, you know, I could see that. That's the thing. My take was like it was only James Franco Easter egg.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, we ride it bro. We ride it bro. We're fucking spitting on it, making circles on it. That's how your mom does it. You can tell your mom calls me James Franco bro.

Speaker 3:

I'll tell you, man, okay, what's James Franco's character name in the movie? You, James Franco, was his character name in the movie. You don't remember Just James Franco, his name. You don't say, when you watch that second or third movie and you know he starts looking at the recording, you're not like hey, you're like hey, it's James Franco, it's James Franco from the first movie.

Speaker 1:

That's all you think of. You're right, I couldn't tell you the doctor. He's a doctor, but I couldn't tell you his fucking name. Yeah, he's a doctor. Thanks, but I mean, that was a really cool aspect. Trying to cure Alzheimer's, yeah and that was the cool part about it. He was trying to help his mom or his dad or somebody His dad, His dad who was really sick.

Speaker 2:

And so.

Speaker 1:

Caesar was the experiment Then, like the combination of the drugs that he was taking mom or something, and then remember but for them to speak was a big deal. Caesar is home. Like that last line, you're like, oh shit, he could talk the whole time.

Speaker 2:

Yeah.

Speaker 1:

Like that, but in comparison to the other Planet of the Apes it's. You know.

Speaker 2:

Side note, I love how the fact how tall Caesar was as tall as James Franco shows that's my favorite scene the movie's showing you. It's like, hey, you know, these chimps Can be big as bigger than you, bro. Yeah.

Speaker 3:

I didn't realize. And the chimps?

Speaker 2:

were like 5'10", 5'11" push to 6.

Speaker 3:

If they were really smart, they could probably be like we couldn't take yeah.

Speaker 2:

If we tried to take three apes, we couldn't take them, bro, they showed you. I don't think we could take one ape.

Speaker 3:

If it was, you got Malfoy from the Harry Potter series.

Speaker 1:

Oh, he's a dick in the movie. He's a zookeeper.

Speaker 3:

He's the one beating up the apes.

Speaker 2:

He can be a dick hole again. Yeah, yeah, I can do it one time, but the first one was great, but the second one was just as good, but if not better.

Speaker 3:

It elevated to a new height. The second one, the one with Gary Oldman, with Gary.

Speaker 1:

Oldman, gary Oldman, that's when we got With the horses. Apes on horses with guns.

Speaker 3:

That was sick, that shit Okay.

Speaker 2:

My favorite one was actually the gorilla, because he had a big ass fucking gun.

Speaker 3:

I could be thinking of another one. He was just fucking, just you know. Whatever the fuck, bro, that shit is, that shit is.

Speaker 1:

They're just like bro. I think he literally had two. Oh yeah, he goes like Kimbo he went in Kimbo oh man bro, that's crazy cause that shit's like what? Like 80, 80 hundred pounds? Absolutely yeah, but he could two arms, yeah, he could manhandle it and just walk it. Walk it, bro, and don't, don't they humans pull out a tank against them it's some wild shit.

Speaker 3:

I just't remember.

Speaker 1:

We barely win in the second one, bro, and the third one. I don't even know if it's considered a win. I remember, like you know, what I remember.

Speaker 3:

We're armies. Remember when they were armies? Do we really win if James Franco isn't involved anymore?

Speaker 2:

We don't win anymore.

Speaker 3:

That's it so you know what?

Speaker 1:

It never would have taken off without him. He's only referenced in the franchise. After that, he never makes another cameo.

Speaker 2:

It's presumed that he died through the virus.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, it's presumed that he died in the virus.

Speaker 3:

But that's it Now. The movies are years later. Which?

Speaker 2:

basically explains why the human population disappeared because a lot of them got fucking the virus.

Speaker 1:

Right now. That makes sense. That was really interesting.

Speaker 2:

Hashtag. I'm just kidding, I stopped right there, it's been a while.

Speaker 1:

Not that long, anyway. Not that long, no, but you know what I thought was intimidating?

Speaker 3:

Two percent of the population? Sir, no way, but it's been presuming the movie A lot more.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, yeah.

Speaker 1:

Oh yeah, that's right. That's right, Two percent, I forgot. I'm like where's that reference Where's that line from oh that's right, war for the Planet of the Apes, because it went. I think it was like the third one or the last one, so I forgot the first title, but it was like Rise Dawn and then War, war, war was good too, woody Harrelson.

Speaker 2:

I loved it. I love Woody Harrelson's character, great bad guy, psychotic, stupid dies and I love how he died through the virus, like a virus got to him before it was gone.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, it finally got to him. That was the crazy part about it, because Gary Oldman died in the gun battle.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, that made sense.

Speaker 1:

Yeah.

Speaker 2:

But then, like the New Zealand, died, Like all these plans and soldiers are following him. They're dying. It's just massacre.

Speaker 3:

Yeah. Caesar's like we need to.

Speaker 2:

We actually follow caesar all the way through the whole, his whole story which leads to the fourth one yeah this is a form, because it's like, now that caesar's gone, let's wrap it up and let's move forward a few generations past the prime, right, yeah, but in the process of it is like this my thing is like what time? Our time? Ape time, whose time you know, right? So you can't tell because, well, that's the thing, it's like they painted us as a great past civilization, but the technology that the apes are looking for throughout the movie, it's still our shit it's no longer than, like what, 40, 50 years.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, I'm thinking like at least 50 years. 50 years right Enough for, like maybe a generation to possibly forget.

Speaker 2:

But they show like, the landscape is like. Oh, Los Angeles is suddenly like because they show the airport, they show LAX, right.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, so it's like bro, california is a desert. You know, for all this luscious green land, I don't know where to take everywhere like bro, climatic, it would have been years, would have been maybe 100 years I think at least 100 years but, ammunition doesn't last 100 years, is my mindset yes, it had to be like a cat.

Speaker 3:

Well, you gotta suspend some belief exactly.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, you gotta suspend some belief talking monkeys I guess maybe it's just that part that got me like because the the time thing throws you off. It's like okay, because I'm throwing the nature side. It's like okay, lord something catastrophic for it to be a suddenly guatemala. Like be a jungle, bro, it's no way.

Speaker 3:

What the fuck well, you know that you can. You see that a lot of movies where, like, if it wasn't for human interaction, a lot of these things would actually he's not wrong, but I wonder how long would it take?

Speaker 2:

well, my thing is like I like to put in the perspective of the main characters, the makers, obviously, the ape, right, right. So maybe I'm looking at a luscious green forest through the eyes of a character, because what the fuck does he know about downtown la you know me as a human, interesting perspective you don't say me as a human, that's, I bring it up right, this is my only way to fight it right.

Speaker 2:

It's like I know what Downton is. It looks like it ain't fucking that beautiful, you know. But for this guy, bro, he's doing like you know, doing 360 no-scope cartwheel spins, you know, like easy, but he's having a good time, he's loving life, but for him he's like maybe the time is different.

Speaker 1:

No, that's an interesting takeaway. I didn't even in that aspect, I guess, I didn't suspend belief. I was like eh, whatever they say, it's been like two generations, you know whatever, however long that is. So I just kind of went with it.

Speaker 3:

It's been long enough to where like different, like sex, sex or sex, uh, different tribes or monkeys yes, right, they talk about different tribes or apes are still like our worshiping caesar now like a like a like a god, like a messiah, yeah, yeah, but he was there, jesus, yeah yeah, the dead.

Speaker 2:

The message was that you forget. It was the message of like apes, start together what does that?

Speaker 3:

mean even brought up start together, as in like, work as a unit or like care for each other through that and I think I've seen that take where the main bad ape is like speak his words.

Speaker 1:

Say his name. Yeah right, those are the lines. Yeah, yeah.

Speaker 3:

Good lines, by the way.

Speaker 1:

Great lines.

Speaker 3:

But basically that idea that is setting up the movie is basically religion.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, absolutely.

Speaker 3:

Different takes on who Caesar really was.

Speaker 1:

Different takes of who are Western Messiah because the orangutan, right, the orangutan was like I'm one of the original. Oh, geez bro, I'm still out here. I'm a day wonder.

Speaker 2:

And he's like he's in the same way. He's like because, like his words, ape strong together, right? Yeah, because they're doing some slavery stuff, right? The orangutans is like no man remember. Ape strong together. It makes you think of like it's the same words, but it's just like the way they take.

Speaker 1:

It's like no man remember apes strong together. It makes me think of like a it's the same words, but it's just like the way they take it.

Speaker 2:

It's like the same thing with religion, it just depends. One is more. Like you know, it's the same thing.

Speaker 1:

It depends how you take it, but it's like pacifist versus activist, but hold on.

Speaker 2:

I want to move on because there's another part of it, because one of the candidates like a counselor to seize that to the, to the bad monkey yeah, he's like a like, a like yeah he's an ape or a human, he's human, he's human, but he's like, like had his higher counsel.

Speaker 1:

He refers to him for information. He tells him about events.

Speaker 2:

I'm like yeah, the Romans did this, alexander the Great did this, the Egyptians did this.

Speaker 3:

Homeboy, you know that's interesting Cause you always got to have that one character that gives you wisdom.

Speaker 1:

Yes, that's basically him. Yes, and that's him.

Speaker 2:

That's? Would he do it? Because that's exactly the reason, because they're looking for technology, because technology advances. Uh, what is he in one piece? War pushes technology, yes, so, uh, this one character, so the main bad guy, is, like he said, he knows his philosophy because of the romance. He's like look, what we're gonna do is establish this, build roads, build houses, and you know, we're gonna be just like we used to be like these humans used to.

Speaker 1:

No matter what, you're still gonna have a job, bro. You're always gonna be necessity. Don't worry about it. Don't worry, guys, they're not gonna but the human guy.

Speaker 2:

He's like look man, it's their time. We used to fight you remember that it's over, yeah let. Let them do. If they're gonna kill each other, let them as long as long. As far as you know, this isn't your problem, no more, yeah that's it.

Speaker 1:

That's literally the way he's acting. That's why I brought it up.

Speaker 2:

This is because now war belongs to apes, because they're conscious and know what they're doing, like hey, you know what you're going to pick up that sword Now. War belongs to them and that's the other aspect of religion, because it comes to like freedom, free will.

Speaker 3:

It's like these movies, the whole trilogy, the whole four movies. I think that's why they're very well reviewed, because they really like lay down these themes of civilization.

Speaker 2:

I didn't think about that I didn't think about that Of civilization, like everything you just broke down.

Speaker 3:

I think it's in the movie. It's integrated into the movie and, like Rise was about, really, it's supposed to be a metaphor About technology going too far, and then the other one Was supposed to be a metaphor Of nature taking over.

Speaker 2:

And gaining sentience.

Speaker 3:

They got all these themes that make you think.

Speaker 2:

Dang. This one really made me think, especially that scene where I was like Our time is up, we fucked up, it's over.

Speaker 1:

I want to jump to the end. There was two things for me that were really cool about this, this movie. One was that the, the cgi, was really pushed very, very far for the like, the wet effects, if you notice that, like in the very first three movies with your mom.

Speaker 1:

Thank you it's all real though there's there's snow and shit like that in the first but the, uh, the fur, the actual fur of the apes getting wet, and like they had to do like underwater shit or not underwater shit, but like fucking with the water.

Speaker 2:

I know what you mean. That was really fucking cool. I never thought about that.

Speaker 1:

That's crazy that they had to push it, because I've noticed that I'm here thinking it was a real river, real apes, real scenes of sadness.

Speaker 2:

But it's obvious, not fake.

Speaker 3:

Yeah.

Speaker 1:

Not on the ape first yeah. So it's crazy in that aspect.

Speaker 1:

So I really was impressed with that aspect of the movie what I thought was really good, though, was the ending, because the way they painted it which was spoilers, of course the humans and the apes. The apes are like why does all this shit have to be yours? And the humans are like why does it have to be like that? He's like where do we belong in this whole shit, in this grand scheme? Now, do we just go back to being silent? Do we go back to being behind cages? And you know what the answer was I don't know and it was crazy.

Speaker 2:

The human had the gun.

Speaker 3:

Good point. I think that's presented in the original movies because by the end of the original movies the humans are not smart right, Only the astronauts.

Speaker 1:

That's exactly what happens in this one. Like the humans get dumber in this one.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, I mean, that's where the plan of the apes, that's where the originals go, like the virus makes them dumb and eventually they lose their language. So that's how the older movies are set up, and then, towards the end, it's like you got smart humans now. Well, now that you have smart humans, what do you do with them? Which is what was presented in the first one. Now you got smart apes. What do you do with them?

Speaker 1:

uh, and that's exactly it. That's, that's the, that's the big question they put at the end. But it's uh, what you realize at the very end of the movie is that there's still a group, there's a well, there's a group still of like smart humans, like there's not like only a few of them, there's actually like a huge yeah, I haven't watched it, but uh I I read the spoiler to where apparently there's a whole base.

Speaker 3:

She was getting something for the satellites.

Speaker 1:

Satellites to communicate with all the other humans now out there.

Speaker 3:

Humans in the space station or some shit.

Speaker 1:

Well, they did it, so they can get whatever the coordinates were, so they can communicate with other people Communicate with the satellites all over, you guys think there's a whole setup for the

Speaker 2:

next movie.

Speaker 1:

Absolutely. Yes, it's a trilogy. Yeah, man.

Speaker 2:

I yeah, man, I look forward I wonder what it'll lead to.

Speaker 3:

I wonder if it'll connect it to anything. I wonder if it'll lead to the OG. People are saying the way that they introduced the satellites and some kind of aspect of space. Oh, that aspect of space could connect to Tim Burton films.

Speaker 1:

Oh, mark Wahlberg comes out of nowhere in the Black Hole. It was that one the whole time, and the fifth one.

Speaker 3:

That's what's gonna happen or the original ones, because in the original ones, you know, uh, I mean that's what happened in the original ones, like the main characters, they're astronauts and they crash landings yeah back in earth and they find out you, idiot, you, or something like that.

Speaker 1:

He yells up to the end man, could you imagine like if somebody was?

Speaker 2:

he's this guy. He's like you idiots.

Speaker 3:

You ruined it, oh yeah yeah, that's right, he does just like you fools yeah, yeah yeah, I mean, but there's always, I think there's a bunch because like return of the apes, and then he takes the apes to to uh back to the correct time, yeah, and then they have a trial and then and then there's the six-part miniseries I have, so I'm excited man, like again the future of what's led up to be the next Planet of the Apes.

Speaker 1:

I'm excited.

Speaker 2:

I thought this one wasn't going to be that great they did some really cool shit. I hope this all ties up to King Kong somehow.

Speaker 1:

Yeah.

Speaker 3:

Oh, of course, what's your?
